HAIM STEINBACH: SHOPPING, A CENTURY OF ART AND CONSUMER CULTURE: SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE, FRANKFURT, GERMANY

The exhi­bi­tion ”Shop­ping”, presented and organ­ised by the SCHIRN in collab­o­ra­tion with the TATE Liver­pool, is devoted to the colourful world of consumerism that has become such a ruling factor in our lives. Shop­ping is a public ritual, a leisure pursuit, a hedo­nist act, and as such reflects the culture and values of our society. The exhi­bi­tion docu­ments 100 years of the fasci­na­tion, the inter­ac­tion and the conver­gence of fine art and aesthetics, and the subtle tech­niques of seduc­tion utilised by our culture of consump­tion – from everyday commodi­ties to luxury objects, from corner shops to mega­malls.

”Shop­ping” is an exhi­bi­tion of over 70 artistic posi­tions including works by Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Gerhard Richter, Claes Olden­burg, Andy Warhol, Roy Licht­en­stein, Haim Stein­bach, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Andreas Gursky, Tobias Rehberger, and Damien Hirst.
