With the exhibition Mondjäger, the Kunstmuseum Ravensburg is presenting the first juxtaposition of painterly and sculptural works by the outstanding Danish artist Asger Jorn with filmic works by the renowned Swedish artistic duo Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg. Asger Jorn (1914–1973) is considered to be one of the most important and multifaceted artists of the European avant-garde after the Second World War. Djurberg & Berg (*1978) gained international attention with their both enchanting and perplexing animated films, which have Plasticine figures and a hypnotic sound. Although the Scandinavian artists are separated by generations and varying media, they are connected by a creaturely world populated by hybrid beings which are part-human, part-animal. These beings defined by metamorphoses and transformations point to the libidinous aspects of our species and bring to the fore notions such as freedom, wildness and instinctual drive which are associated with “the animal.” Classical concepts of value and form are exploded in a playful, open-ended process in order to give space to the unknown and the imaginary. The vividly colored pictorial worlds cause viewers to embark upon a journey full of transformations and surprises and promise insights into the depths and shallows of the mind.
